Sophie Dutertre

Social Media Officer

My job usually involves working on several projects at once – all of which are relevant to the whole of Melaleuca. At the moment, I’m coordinating the volunteer program, I’m the point of contact for our Mela Kulcha social enterprise café and I’m also working on our 25th anniversary celebrations.

Another aspect of my job is to update our social media pages, so that our clients, volunteers and the community are always up to speed. In fact, a lot of my work is externally focused on Melaleuca’s connection with the Darwin community.

My colleagues at Melaleuca are really supportive, compassionate and hard working and I love the fact that we’re such a multicultural team.

Outside of work, I enjoy mentoring young people from refugee backgrounds as they begin their career journey. As I’m from Melbourne, I find living in Darwin a wonderful opportunity to better understand Indigenous issues. To this end, I really hope the First Nations of this country will soon have a Voice to Parliament.
