Prof. Sivaram (Ram) Vemuri

Professor Vemuri has over 50 years of experience interacting with diverse cultures through
his education and work. Professor Vemuri studied in India, Beirut, Western Australia, and
England. He also lived and worked in Jordan, Papua New Guinea, and the USA.
He first
came to Australia as a student to complete his Matriculation in the 70s and has witnessed
changes to Australian Multiculturalism policies since then. Professor Vemuri has lived in
Darwin for over 30 years.
Over these years, he has actively promoted the multicultural life of the NT. Throughout these years, he has contributed to and organized conferences and discussions on the economic applications to contemporary issues, drawing from both indigenous and multicultural lived experiences.
He has been a lead organiser of several International, National, and local discussions and discourses in areas such as managing diversity, inclusion, pluralism, diaspora, citizenship, and refugee issues, and provided policy advice to government, private, and non-governmental organizations.
He is also the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Health Care and Behavioural Research. Professor Vemuri has made an extensive contribution to Applied Economics, emphasizing the importance of economic contribution through migration and settlement.
His published work includes Silence, Silence in Organizations, Economic Migration and Formation of Diasporas, Economic Pluralism, and Refugee Entrepreneurship, highlighting the intersections of multiculturalism, economics, and ethics. His latest work focuses on the intersectionality between multiculturalism and ageing, the effect of migration on social cohesion, and violence. Professor Vemuri is the current chair of the NT Ministerial Advisory Council of Multicultural
Affairs (MACMA), a position he previously held from 2020 to 2022. He is also the immediate past chair and current member of the NT Minister’s Advisory Council for Senior Territorians (MACST), a board member of the NT branch of Melaleuca Australia, a board member of the NT Community Benefit Fund, a member of FECCA’s Multicultural Advocates for Inclusive Aged Care (MAIAC), a Consumer Advocate of Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA), a Consumer Advocate of Live Up Australia.
