Liam Somers

Leader Learning & Development

Liam is the Leader of Learning and Development at Melaleuca, responsible for developing and delivering educational content for staff, clients, and external organisations. His work includes creating curriculum to support the settlement of humanitarian arrivals, facilitating parenting and family workshops, and providing professional development to Melaleuca staff and partner organisations. Liam also manages the Bicultural Support Worker team, ensuring learning and cultural insights are woven into all areas of service delivery.

Born in Darwin, Liam has lived and worked in England, Spain, and the USA. Before joining Melaleuca, he taught English to culturally and linguistically diverse students in Seattle and volunteered as a mentor for refugee youth. With over ten years of experience as an educator and trainer, he brings a strong background in both adult and child education.

Passionate about sport and the outdoors, Liam enjoys camping and playing football (soccer). He values connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and is committed to fostering inclusion through education and community engagement. Having returned to Darwin after more than a decade abroad, Liam hopes his daughters will grow up in a culturally diverse and inclusive society that celebrates difference and belonging.
