Community Support Worker
In my role, I work closely with newly arrived individuals and families to help them regain their independence, by supporting them with their practical, emotional and social needs. This involves a wide range of tasks such as ensuring their health care needs are met, teaching them life skills, completing paperwork, preparing meals and helping them to access community facilities and pursue hobbies – basically any support that can ensure a seamless integration into their new community and way of life.
As I arrived in Australia as a refugee, I can truly relate to our clients’ experiences, which helps me to better support their needs. Before joining Melaleuca, I worked as a Swahili translator with Interpreting and Translating Service NT. It was such a rewarding experience to help people understand their situation and fully communicate their needs. Outside of work, I’m heavily involved as Leader of the Congolese Community in Darwin and really enjoy being the Pastor of my local church.
