Amirah Shah

Trauma Advocate Counsellor

In my role, I’m responsible for providing torture and trauma counselling to refugees and asylum seekers and delivering psychoeducation training to community services.

During my career, I’ve gained experience in running outreach programs, training various institutions and working with special needs individuals. My passion is to improve the quality of people’s lives through knowledge and therapy. This involves ensuring clients feel heard, helping them derive meaning from their experiences and guiding them towards achieving resolutions and goals.

In my spare time, I’m involved in an online outreach program that offers therapeutic services for people from cultures with barriers towards emotional and psychological support.

My ultimate dream is to live in a world where empathy replaces sympathy and mental health is no longer stigmatised.
